Introduction to Aluminium Oxide – Titanium Oxide Powder
Alumina–Titania (Al₂O₃–TiO₂) is a ceramic composite powder, commonly supplied in the industry-standard 87 wt% Al₂O₃ / 13 wt% TiO₂ composition. Alumina provides high hardness, wear resistance, corrosion resistance, and electrical insulation, while TiO₂ improves melt behaviour, particle flattening, coating density, and fracture toughness compared with pure alumina. The blend is typically co-fused and crushed or agglomerated and sintered into a controlled, free-flowing spray powder. Atmospheric plasma spraying (APS) and HVOF melt and accelerate the particles onto metallic substrates, forming adherent lamellar coatings with controlled thickness and porosity. Higher-TiO₂ grades favour toughness and bonding, while lower-TiO₂ compositions retain greater hardness. 87/13 Al₂O₃–TiO₂ is widely used for general-purpose wear, abrasion, corrosion, and electrically insulating coatings.
Types & Grades of Aluminium Oxide - Titanium Oxide Powder
Aluminium Oxide – Titanium Oxide powder is offered in standard catalogue grades and particle size distributions, with custom purity, morphology, and packaging available for OEM and R&D use.
| Grade / Form | Typical Purity | Key Features / Uses |
|---|
| 87/13 Al2O3-TiO2 (standard blend) | 99.0% – 99.8% | Most widely used ratio; balances hardness, toughness, and deposition efficiency for general wear and dielectric coatings |
| 96/4 Al2O3-TiO2 (high-alumina blend) | 99.0% – 99.5% | Higher hardness and dielectric strength, closer to pure-alumina wear performance |
| 60/40 Al2O3-TiO2 (high-titania blend) | 99.0% – 99.5% | Higher toughness, denser and better-bonded coatings, and improved impact resistance at reduced hardness |
| Fine-Cut Grade (approx. -22 +5 μm) | 99.5%+ | Suited to HVOF and precision plasma spray for thin, dense, low-porosity coatings |
| Coarse-Cut Grade (approx. -125 +45 μm) | 99.0%+ | For combustion/flame spray, favouring higher deposition rate on thicker, economical wear layers |
Applications of Aluminium Oxide - Titanium Oxide Powder
Aluminium Oxide – Titanium Oxide powder supports demanding roles across research and production applications where this material’s specific structural, electronic, magnetic, or electrochemical properties are the key requirement.
| Industry | Application | Function |
|---|
